Fisheye Lens Photography tips from a Photographer’s Perception

Fisheye photography is just another name of crafting the most striking view  of   images. Fisheye photography can be an art for few or fun for some.  While it can turn your cutest picture of your pet into a wide mouthed and big-head ugly creature but when used rightly with little creativity, it can turn the most common beach view as the best panoramic view you have seen ever. Using fisheye lenses, your pictures may appear more creative and unusual from the way they originally look.  But fisheye lenses are for a definite purpose and it is important to know that where the fisheye photography is basically meant to be used. These lenses originated much earlier but the usage of these lenses were limited to the study of  the sky and cloud formations. But due to their blend of creative and funny look, these lenses became more popular with photographers day by day. We had got in touch with some of the photographers who had used these lenses invariably and below are some of their opinions to where the fisheye lens photography are best to be used at!

  1. A wide gathering on the dance floor

Suppose you want to give a tint of that radial-blur effect of the dance floor. Here’s how you going to do it.  Just slow down the shutter speed, spin the camera counter clockwise by clamping the camera by one hand  and spooling it around with another.    You can surely test and experiment with your pictures.

2.  Exaggerate the curvature of Ocean or  Beaches

One point while shooting with fisheye lenses is to place the horizon in the middle of the frame. If you move your object to the edge of your frame then your view could be distorted. So it is important to consider the position of your object with respect to the frame you are keeping.

3.   Capture Everything or a Landscape

A fisheye lens can also be used for wide angled landscape photography without straight lines. Suppose you want to shoot a beautiful sunset at a beach and where you also want to   capture the trees, the sky, the sand, the buildings and the people around. You also do not want that typical fisheye distorted look. Do not worry.  It is possible.  The trick is to keep the horizon towards the middle of the frame to capture everything you want in the scene. Sometimes, you don’t want distorted lines but still need that super wide angle of the frame.

4.    For capturing Massive or Symmetrical Architectures

You could not capture massive structure like wide ceilings with a symmetrical architecture or a wide view of a monument with a regular lens or one click of the shutter. For that you need to use those fisheye lenses. 5. Again just try to capture and explore those wildlife views with these lenses from hundreds yard apart. You will experience some never before shots. 6. Now a days a single lens can be used in security cameras to monitor a wide view of the surroundings. 7. It is ideal for underwater photography due to their close focus and wide view. These features aid in better sharpness and color composition underwater. Also is ideal when you need to shoot that big shark, large frogfish or large seahorses.

Conclusion:

Fisheye lens is an amazing tool. However many people overuse or just use it for fun. There is absolutely no harm is using these lenses to have some fun filed shots with your friends but it is to be known that there is a creative and serious side of it also which can be only acknowledged by a serious photographer only.
